Jon Paulo Jequinto:
"I'll probably just buy it for work..."
OH, HOW I WISHED I COULD DO THAT AS WELL.
This is the equivalent to The 3DS XL, while everyone was expecting the equivalent to the New 3DS
Basically: $50 over base model for bigger OLED screen, double internal storage, better kickstand, LAN connection, and better speakers. Worth the extra $50 if you're buying new imo, but probably not worth shelling out for if you already have a Switch.
The OLED Switch doesn't upset or disappoint me. Actually I'm grateful that my OG model will continue to play every release and I wont need to buy a new one until the actual successor comes out.
“We got a LAN port who knew this would be ground breaking”- Said a person from 1988
People really need to stop believing widely discredited "leakers" and getting their hopes up like this.
Even if we hadn't been over hyped with rumors, we'd still be disappointed. There's very little here for current switch users. Great for new users though
Now I get to laugh at people who said switch pro was “confirmed”
Feel like I should be excited as someone who plays undocked 99% of the time, but I have a switch Lite for that. I'm sure the OLED screen looks great, but I can't see the need to upgrade until they upgrade the chipset.
$350 is a good value if you do not have a switch and want to get one. It is not a good value if you already have the current generation of switch. It's good they didn't call it the pro.
As a docked Switch user, I'm happy that I will be saving money. But if I didn't had a Switch I would totally buy this model.
"This is quite different for Nintendo. How often do they sell a device on the screen?" - It was previously done with every single Nintendo handheld: Game Boy to Game Boy Light, GBA to GBA SP (then later again with the backlit model AGS-101), DS to DS Lite, 3DS to New 3DS.
People are acting like Nintendo promised all these new things when they didn’t say shit until now
The True J-Bru:
I think that's the happiest I've ever seen someone after encountering a wild Buizel.
Out of the three, the OG Switch is kinda the best used in TV mode, the Lite is the best handheld version and the OLED one is the best for tabletop play. Roughly speaking.
Can’t wait to play Tetris 99 on an OLED screen 🤙😎
I’m almost sorta relieved they didn’t announce anything substantial. I’m perfectly happy with my launch Switch, and don’t want to spend $350 if I don’t have to. Still, I don’t really get wanting to spend that much to “upgrade” on this if you already have a Switch. Not much meat on the bone in my opinion.
This was exactly what I was expecting basically just a larger screen and a few other features
Well at least I’m glad I don’t have to buy a new switch
I'm glad I always had realistic expectations. This looks cool. I'll trade my current Switch in for this.
Let's all give our best wishes to Nintendo Life. They've got a colossal amount of new video games to review this month.
Hero Of The Wild:
Man all those rumours about this new switch model really ruined it's hype
As someone who mostly plays handheld, YES this is basically exactly what I want
David Winfield Hargraves:
I play almost exclusively in handheld and adore my vita, so this is a day one purchase
This looks promising, even with minor upgrades that count.
Improved audio could potentially be one of the low-key best parts
The one thing I was really hoping for was compatibility with bluetooth headphones. They make 3rd party adapters, but they don't work very well
I hope they release the switch and dock separately as well, I couldn’t really care less about the LAN port so I find the price a bit too high for what it’s worth.
I’m actually pretty excited for this. I’m getting one for sure. I’ve been wanting to get a second switch for the family anyway
Remember how there were like 5 different models of the 3DS? This is like that. This is why you should never trust Reddit rumors.
I love these two blokes. I can listen to them talk about stuff all day.
I am so excited for this new model. Honestly I have a Lite and really wanted a bigger screen and this seems to be the perfect upgrade, and not to say with Metroid Dread this will be the best day ever
I really like this. It keeps the other two versions relevant while being unique.
I think that discussion you had about leaks the other day is particularly relevant with this.
Can’t wait to get it, super excited! Love the white controllers, looks so sleek & luxury.
I think this is dope, and I’m definitely gonna get it. The new display will impress people when they see it in person, and the kickstand is actually usable now!
I kept waiting for more… I do love handheld mode so I am thinking of picking it up though
I'd love to see Sonic Colors Ultimate on this. I might have to just get sonic and wait to play through it again on this.
Crazy that we still haven’t got an upgraded joycon
I'm sorry, but the switch that we actually all wanted is in another castle........
On the bright side, my wallet can rest and I can still feel good about there being another latest and greatest piece of tech I wanna buy
This is good , it doesn’t force an upgrade from the previous switch owners
I've had my Switch since a month after it launched and right now I have to intention of switching it out for a newer model. If mine ever breaks though I'll be sure to pick this one up.
I really like they just call it Oled not any difficult names just say what it is. A switch with Oled screen
I just want Dock, i feel the the things thats implement in the new switch should have been in the current switch and Jon i'm going to start using "Graftie"
I've just pre-ordered this. Can't wait!
720p on a 7inch OLED screen is going to be fine and look good.
Lol I knew it was too good to be true when everyone was talking about 4K and enhanced performance and basically being an all out next gen console.
nintendo: *never once says theyre making a switch pro*
the internet: wow they just fucking lied i guess we arent getting it ever then huh???
This is basically all within my expectations so I'm happy, plus I play 90% undocked so I will be getting the most out of the OLED display. I've had my same Switch since around launch so this is an easy purchase.
I was hoping we would have heard of getting a small performance boost to make it more efficient but I assume if it is in there it's so minor that Nintendo wouldn't want to use it as a selling point and risk people thinking the regular Switch would no longer be viable.
I feel like that Leaks video was incredibly timely now 😂
Okami, the ori games, and Sonic Mania will look beautiful on this system.
This just feels like a soft upgrade V3 nothing “new” but it’s only here for a specific crowd. I’ll stick with my switch lite and day 1 launch switch from 2017. It never leaves the dock anyways.
New switch, eh who cares
But 4 seconds of Splatoon 3 gameplay, now that's the stuff I came for
I’m personally gonna get it, as I play hand held 99% of the time.
This is the same size as the current switch, right? I just bought an awesome Splatoon 2 case for my switch and would still like to use it with the OLED.
Steel Ball Runner:
As someone who only plays docked, having 2 models that heavily focus on improvements to handheld play makes me feel left out.
You expected more, but this is exactly what I expected from Nintendo!
Also, the new joycons look like they joined the Empire!
64gb ROM and OLED screen is worth $50 to be honest.
I’m bummed it’s essentially a new screen. Would’ve loved even a slight upgrade to CPU/GPU or really any performance enhancing components. The white looks slick though.
I only play handheld so I'm definitely getting one.
P.s I remember how amazing the vita screen was
Great video. But c’mon Brits, let’s also say the price in pounds too! Thank youuuuuu
This feels made for me a little bit. As Jon said with his original release Switch being a bit “gruffly”, mine has got a few problems too now, so this will be a great upgrade
The Ladle 1989:
Nice to see your guys take on the new switch. YouTube's flooding with all the other channels now haha... Happy I got the low down from you lads though! Cheers
Mixed messages about the exact dimensions. I just want to know if it’ll fit my satisfye grip or not.
I play docked 80% of the time so I can't say this model does it for me. I am happy with the revision and think a lot of people who get it are going to get the BEST Switch out there, but for me who just got the Mario edition Switch earlier this year, I am going to just stick with that.
This new switch does remind me alot of the new 3ds or dsi. Some nice changes but not necessary to upgrade unless you need to replace your current model. This is similar to when I had to replace my 3ds for a new 3ds in 2019.
I own the V1 switch from the first month the Switch released and have noticed the battery life during handheld mode has gotten shorter by the years. Would this new OLED Switch be a good upgrade?
For new comers - absolutely wait and buy this version!
I will wait for one that has a more substantial update to the system and more features. Nevertheless, it looks great!
Really was expecting a bit more of a hardware refresh. Guess I'm sticking with my V1 Switch for now.
Another thing to consider is that a mid-gen performance boost would fracture the player base, so I guess we can all look forward to the next generation of Nintendo console together.
My switch has really bad cracks in it. So if I were to get a new one, I’d get this one
When I got my Switch back in 2017, I was imagined if the Switch got a surface like kick-stand would be so much nicer! And now we has it after nearly 5 years!
I've had an LG OLED TV for years, even using a PC on it often and have had absolutely zero burn-in.
I mean, I really feel like most of these new features should have been in the original switch.
I definitely plan to pick one up, looks great
Astral Chain is gonna look amazing on the OLED
but the question remains does it come with a brand NEW funky mode plus knuckles deluxe HD 3D season pass
This would've been a pass for me if not for the fact that my Switch that I had since year 1 has been wearing out its use. Maybe it is time for me to get an upgrade. I was thinking on getting a new one anyway so this is actually perfect timing for me.
Basically an "XL" model. Gotta wait a little more for improved internals.
PS: In the Japanese version it says "enhanced speakers" instead of "audio".
Le Ookami Senpai:
So excited to get mine! Already have the switch and a lite but this looks too awesome to pass!
with a release date of October, that would be a poor time to announce any additional "consoles" to compete with one another for the holidays. I think its a sign Nintendo feels they can squeeze another year or two of interest from the original concept
This is smart by Nintendo. It’s an upgraded model with parts they can get their hands on in this Covid/shipping/chip shortage world. I fear a proper “pro” design built with more power would slam face first into the PS5 shortage/scalping nightmare.
Nintendo has most definitely done this type of practice in the past. After they released the 3ds, the 3dsxl model was announced shortly after. Then Nintendo released a more powerful 3ds titled "new 3ds". This feels like its Nintendo announcing the switch xl before the "new Nintendo switch" which would be the premier version that will ultimately be announced.
If i get a new switch, my old one will be nicknamed "grufty"
Yea I can get down with this. I've been waiting for an updated switch since I have a launch model and I love the white. Now hopefully it won't get scalped
Meh, as a person who always plays my Switch docked, this isn’t something I need. I still wish we got a slight performance boost with it, but oh well.
I was wanting a base upgrade to the internal storage since I've had a Switch since launch, and the white joy cons look nice at least. Also I almost never go docked, so I'll likely get this.
And keep my base Switch as an Indie game heaven. All these updates and DLC for the chunkier first party games over the years have ate the space up.
As someone who mostly plays docked, this seems like a waste of my money.
Nintendo have always done more with less , they're the super efficient ninja of consoles
The new Switch OLED seems like a nice companion device. I play mostly on ps5 and I’ve been ignoring my switch since November so this is a nice insensitive to get back into Nintendo
As someone eyeing switch lite for a while now, if they put out a Metroid themed model on release day I probably will buy it.
I admit, as someone who bought a Switch for the first time just last summer, I'm a bit relieved by this announcement. I'm sure the OLED screen and other new features are lovely, but I'm content with the console I have, and I don't have the funds to upgrade right now anyway. This gives me more breathing room to save up for Nintendo's next big thing down the road.
I'd totally get this but I REALLY don't wanna deal with transferring my data.
I’ll just end up trading in my current Switch and get this one for it.
I tend to have a good balance of docked and handheld gameplay, so that’s why I’d go for this instead of the Lite.
Sounds good to me honestly. I'll get one probably down the road. I play mine in handheld almost exclusively and this would give me another joycons.
I wonder if they will change the screen from an acrylic overlay to glass. It would go along way to it feeling more premium especially when using touch.
'Grufty'! Sounds like a wild Pokemon I've never caught...
If the dock is interchangeable, can I just buy the dock by itself? It looks hella nice
So this revision is mostly focused on enhancing the hardware as opposed to the software. The only remaining hardware annoyance would be the lack of Bluetooth headphone support. They’ll probably wait to add higher resolutions or DLSS for a 2023 revision, or the Switch’s successor. I’m betting on the successor having more VR compatibility.
I've had oled screens for about 10 years now on my phone. each of my phones got 2-3 years in use before I got a new one, and not a single one had any sign at all of burn in. Burn in won't be an issue I can imagine
